Where Are The "craftsman-style" Homes In The Midwest And What Is The Cost Of A Craftsman Home?
Jul 10, 2007 by Namom | Posted in Renting & Real Estate
I unexploded in Illinois and I am in love with the architecture and character of craftman homes. I man be in the market for one in the years to crop up b grow but do not want to make a HUGE move to a different part of the country. Where are the craftmans style homes in the midwestern part of the wilderness and what do the typically cost?
I am in the Dekalb county of Illinois and prices are getting lavish. has to be have at least 3 bedrooms. Looking for homes with the original woodwork, "built ins," nothing that has been modernized.
I am an Illinois Realtor, it all depends on the discovery and exactly what you're looking for in a "craftsman-style" home. I've seen them order in a variety of styles, sizes, ages, etc. ranging from 100k - 5mil +. I don't dream you need to make a huge move with so much to choose from right here. If I can't personally help you, I can certainly refer you to someone who can.

I'm talking impassive features, sliding rice paper doors (or something that resembles rice autograph) and more. I want to find a very oriental style home in the USA, but I don't know where to start. (If you could just tell me how to go about searching for these homes, that'd be eager)
Thanks!!!
Easier for you to buy a fixer-upland and renovated it to what you like it to be. It can be expensive because the tatmi mats can cost a lot depending on the prominence you get. But the west coast of the US or Canada would be the best place to try and have it done because it'll cost you less than if you were on the east seaboard. A friend of mine rebuilt her house doing a Japanese stlye and cost well over $80,000 to purport everythign she needed. It's stunningly beautiful and I'm reminded of the times I live in Japan and if I had the in I would be doing it myself as well. Good luck.
Is There A Cruise Where You Can Tour Mediterranean Style Homes In Europe To Get Ideas When We Build?
May 31, 2008 by M B | Posted in Other - Europe
We would like to set up a Mediterranean style home one day. We love all the style and architecture that it has to offer. We'd like to get authentic ideas from the valid Mediterranean area so we can build as if we are there in the area. Any cruises/ travel vacation companies that submit this? Any ideas?
Go to Portmeirion ;-)
Truthfully, I think when you travel places on your own it's almost impossible to know what houses are "trustworthy" and which have only been built at some time in the last half-century by people "upsetting" to built something "authentic".
You'd probably be safer by looking at the pictures in some well-researched books on the substance, than by travelling.
But if you are hell-bent on travelling, I'd strongly recommend checking out Italy's slipping away villages. I'm sure you've seen these on the telly - the places (mostly in central Italy and most of the time far away from the sea) that are so remote all young people are leaving because there are no jobs.
Torri Superiore (see identify with) is such a place; see the Guardian travel article for others.
In such places no new houses have been built for many decades, so you'll see the beginning architecture there.
Some of these villages have seen an influx of German and British ex-pats - mostly artists and retired people; so I'd guess you'd find some info on the internet, and some people who could plagiarize you on your quest.

I am in the bazaar for a new home and I want a contemporary or modern style. I cannot seem to find a website that will allow me to search for a proper to style of home. I am fond of the upper west section of the US (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Northern California) and the midwest as well (Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri). Please if anyone has any news on websites to look at it is greatly appreciated. I have been through 5 realtors already.
It is a sound question. It is a problem for me too. You can join different realtors' websites and use their search mechanism using "advanced search" which should give you the choice of style but the realtors' intelligence comes into play then so good luck!
My favorite site is eHBSR.
You can also do Google/Bing/Yahoo enquire to find out the names of the architects who designed homes like the ones you would like. Often times realtors use these names like "Direct Lloyd Wright inspired" and such so sometimes you will find a home that was done by a less famous architect for less change.... such as John Lloyd Wright for example...
This affair of 'Vasthu' focuses on a dream home with Kerala architectural style.
