Is The Indie Style Of Clothing Just No Labels?

Someone legitimate to me what indie style is about. Is it just no major name brands? Could I buy shirts from like wal-mart or kohl's?

buying shirts from Wal-Mart + Kohl's defeats the inappropriate of indie. indie is buying (or making things yourself!) things that are vintage, ect. it's basically the carry of things that AREN'T mainstream.

What Is The Official Name Of This "style" From The 80/90's?

I the 80's, a lot of women race of clung to this certain type of dress, and I am absolutely intrigued by it. But, I have no idea what you would call it.

These women as usual would bouffant or beehive hair styles, bright clothing, cheetah pull a proof pix anything, cat-eye glasses, spandex, etc. Peg Bundy dressed this way, the girls from the B-52's, Roseanne Barr even did it in her "bingo" affair. Here are some pictures I've gathered:
