I have an on-current debate with someone about this and would like to resolve it once and for all. Does it exclude name brand? Do you think you can still be a punk if you fork out more than five minutes picking out your clothes? Can you look neat and trim and still look punk or does it all have to be grunge. What's the characteristic between Gothic and punk clothes? I'm just wondering about the clothes.. not the attitude or music.
Punk clothing: It cannot be name characterize (underground brands are fine). Most of it is basic work clothes like jeans, t-shirt, and jackets. What makes it punk is all in the details, like what the shirt says, or how many studs and/or gather patchs are on the jacket. It can acctually take a while to put a look together, put it's supposed to look like it nothing but got thrown together. The difference between punk and gothic clothing can be minimal or huge. Rivetheads (a kind of goth) and a hardcore punk can look very like, but a Romanigoth and an old school punk look nothing alike.
